A bit overcast and a few spots of rain for a short while but still warm. Went to Beacon Fell country park and did the walk around. Did not enjoy the walk at all due to blocked paths and lack of interest. On way back stopped at Stanley Park. Again a bit run down but borders were planted up well. Walked 8.2 miles.

A nice sunny warm day. Took bus 900 to the Hauskaibling gondola and chair lift. Did the summit round route before coming all the way back down and catching the bus back. Was a narrow ridge at the very top. Walked 7.66 miles.

Rather wet and misty with showers, although sun did come out in afternoon. Took the hiking bus to Preunegg gondola and took it up. Then walked up to Spegielsee (mirror lake) then all the way back down to the valley station on path 773 before getting bus back. Walked 5.97 miles.

Started off raining but stopped by 9:30 then overcast. Did the Tauernblick runde circular walk along the valley. Saw plenty of animals inc deer, rabbits goats horses etc. Walked 11.7 miles.

Started off a bit cloud but cleared by mid morning. Another great cloud inversion today. Took the number 971 bus to Hochwurzen gondola station. Went up the gondola then walked across and up to the Rosfeld summit (path 60) then walked all the way down and back to Schladming (paths 60, 61 & 773). Wasn’t expecting to walk all the way back but was not as far as I thought. Walked 7.89 miles.

Glorious sunny hot day today. Early in the morning there was a fantastic cloud inversion. Went up the Planai gondola and walked to the summit then did the panoramic circular walk before doing walks 53 and 779 all the way back down. Saw a woodpecker up close on a tree hammering away! Then did a wonder around Schladming. Walked 8.6 miles.

Saturday left home at 11am and stopped off at Harlech, North Wales and walked along the beach. Then on to Greenacres holiday park in Porthmadog arriving at 7pm. Staying in Snowdon 1, a deluxe 3 bedroom static caravan.

Got up early and drove to Llanberis arriving at 8am. Nice clear, bright sunny day. Walked along the Llanberis path to the summit of Snowdon in around 2hrs 50 arriving at 10:50. Was fairly quiet about and able to easily get to the summit point. Went to the cafe for coffee and flapjack and rested til 12:30 then walked back down the same way in around 2hrs 20. Walked around Llanberis for a bit. Then drove to Caernarfon to spend the evening and had fish and chips!

Flew back to Birmingham today after a last day in Söll. Had wonder around and rested before coming back. Another excellent year of snowboarding. Really like the Skiwelt region.

They are replacing the funicular at Elmau and replacing it with a gondola. Wednesday evenings has the local market in town.

Took the bus from Mayhofen to the Hintertux Glacier at the end of the valley, about half an hour journey. Unfortunately the weather is quite bad and it's very windy and foggy at the top and not safe to snowboard. We came back down to the middle of the mountain and snowboarded there instead.

First day of snowboarding today. The queue at the Penken Gondola was very long, so we took the Ahorn cable car and went up the Ahorn mountain for the morning. At lunchtime, went up Penken gondola which was now much quieter. Fantastic snow conditions.

Flew to Innsbruck, Austria for the start of a weeks snowboarding in Mayrhofen. Staying at the Hotel Neuehaus but staying in the Landhaus annex. The main hotel is very nice, but the annex is not so good.

Went to see A Night at the Opera at Symphony Hall Birmingham. Was hosted by Jennie Bond and had the soloists Linda Richardson and Rafael Rojas. Was excellent evening of music from various operas by Rossini, Wagner, Verdi, Puccini etc etc.

Went to see Last of the Summer Wine at the Belgrade theatre, Coventry. Was quite good, was the Moon Bather one. Not quite as good as Porridge the other week. Had Ruth Madoc, Tony Adams and Steven Pinder in it.

Went to see Porridge at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry. Had Sean Williamson (of Eastenders) playing Fletcher. Was very good and most of the actors looked like the originals, especially Mr Mackay, who had him to a tee! Good evening out.

Today is home day. Spent the morning wondering round Kranjska before being picked up and taking back to Salzburg airport (was 8 of us in a mini bus and it only took 2.25 hours!). In total, I walked 124km in the last 2 weeks, not bad going.

Went up the chairlift to Vitranc and walked part of no 13 (4.96 [8.96]km).In the evening, the Beer Belly Band played Irish music (yes, a Slovenian band playing Irish music!). They were very good indeed.

Today did the walk to Tromeja where the Borders of Slovenia, Austria and Italy meet. Took walks 9, 12 then 18. About 21km round trip. Very tiring walking up the mountain. Views were well worth it though.

Today started the Coventry Way Walk, starting at Ryton-on-Dunsmore, going anticlockwise round to Ansty. This is a circular way around Coventry, approximately 44 miles in length. Will try to complete this walk in small sections, with this section approx 10 miles. See walking page for more details.

Spent most of today around Soll before catching bus at 3:45 back to Salzburg for flight home. Flight was delayed by about 50 minutes. Has been a very good week snowboarding; conditions were excellent, the ski area was great and Soll was good. Would definitely come back here again!

Flew to Salzburg for weeks snowboarding in Soll, Austria. Seems to be plenty of snow about, which is good. Had a walkaround and collected snowboard and boots. We are in the Ski-Welt area; the largest ski area in Austria covering Soll, Scheffau, Going, Elmau, Hopfgarten, Brixen and Westendorf. Staying in the Hotel Austria. Seems very nice and central, looks like recently refurbed. In evening, went to WhiskeyMuhle bar, was extremely packed.

The new iPhone 3G is released today, and guess what?.... I have mine!! Pre-ordered it Monday and it arrived this morning. Very nice phone, love the multi-touch screen and the way the display turns when you tilt the phone. Have downloaded some apps for it already, and loaded some music. Looks good!!

Today I took delivery of my brand new Apple Macbook Pro! My first Mac and I'm loving it. Mac Os X Leopard is fantastic, love the way everything integrates together. It's a lovely aluminium case with 15.4" screen, 2.4GHz DualCore processor, 2 GB Ram, 200GB 7200rpm harddrive, builtin wifi (802.11n) and bluetooth. Love the 3D dock and the way windows slide in place.

Flew to Salzburg then onto Kitzbeuhel for snowboarding holiday. Place was packed as it was the Hannenkam race weekend. Could hardly move in the centre. Lots of famous skiers around, Hermann Meier, Diddier Couche, Ben Reich etc. Staying at the Jagerwirt hotel which is quite posh at 4 stars. Nice meals too.

Went to Hippodrome, Birmingham to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Had Brian Conley as Caractacus Potts, Jane Gurnett (Casualty) as Baroness, Sean Blowers (Londons Burning) as Baron & Kevin Kennedy (Curly) as child catcher. Was an absolutely outstanding performance. Even had Chitty flying through the air!! Had a great standing ovation at the end which was well deserved. The set was fantastic.

Another NT properties of Lyme Park & Tatton Park. Lyme Park was portrayed in BBC's Pride & Prejudice. Was a little disapointed as the roof was being repaired and covered in scaffolding and the grounds were poor. Tatton Park had lovely gardens.

Went to the Hippodrome, Birmingham to see WNO's production of Mozarts Don Giovanni. Excellent performance with very good singing. The scenery was average but adequate, and the scene when Don Giovanni is taken down to Hell was good with real flame flares. Excellent evening out.

Went to the NEC for the BBC Good Homes & Good Food shows. Met Ainsley Harriet who both opened the show and did cooking in the theatres. Also met Jimmy Dohetty of Jimmys Farm in the Tasting Theatre (VERY nice sausages!) and also Oliver Heath. Overall a very good day out although the Good Home section not as good as last years event.

Went to Symphony Hall Birmingham to see performance of Mozarts Solemn Vespers, Tippetts Concerto for double string & Haydns Nelson Mass. As expected, the Tippett was awful but was made up by the brilliant performances of the Mozart & Haydn.

Went to Symphony Hall in Birmingham to see Bach's St Matthew Passion. Whilst the performance was very good, the piece isn't really one of the best and it did cut the end of the story off a little short! (Despite the performance being almost 4 hours! Still it was a good afternoon out.

Went DMH to see the Philharmonia playing the Movies presented by Simon Bates. They were brilliant and were very loud, which isn't surprising considering it was a large orchestra. They played Star Wars, Star Trek, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings etc.

Went to the Hippadrome, Birmingham to see WNO's performance of Janaceks' Katya Kabanova. Very good performance, but not sure about the piece itself. It lacked any real musical content and had no real singing!

Went to DMH to see Gilbert & Sullivans HMS Pinafore. It was an outstanding performance, and had Colin Baker (of Dr Who fame) in it. It was directed by Timothy West. The set was fantastic and the singing brilliant. Very enjoyable evening.

Went to Warwick Arts Centre to see Mozart's Marriage of Figaro by the ETO. It was a rather average performance and a little disapointment. Marcello's singing was awful, the orchestra was far too loud. Susanna, however was excellent.

Went to Covent Garden to see Richard Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier with Felicity Lott. Exceptional performance, most enjoyable experience.

Went to De Montford Hall in Leicester to see The Four Seasons by Candlelight. The performers, Mozart Players were dressed in 18th C. period costume. Very good performance, including Handel, Bach etc trumpet works.

Went to Symphony Hall to see Cecilia Bartolli. She was with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. They were performing Salieri Overtures and Arias. Cecilia was absolutely outstanding but let down by the music. She had a most gorgeous dress.
